Claimer Alert at Tampa Bay: Gentleman Jackson

Former, and only, Thoroedge Claimer of the Year pictured above and detailed below:

Since changing barns things have not gone so well for this old chap, no longer at Woodbine but making the South Florida circuit, losing yesterday in (I think) his first outing for a tag, $25k:

Had a lot of fun with this one a few years back, may not be a bad claim for any interested parties. A bit beyond my budget, but if he shows up here in KY this spring for around $15k I will grab him because I know he loves the STORM!

  1. Hi Bill,

Just thought I would draw attention to Rene Haugen from Norway who had a winner at Meydan today. I know you have blogged about him in the past. I find his way of training amazing. He could teach a few of his high profile colleagues from the US and the UK a thing or two!

In the 2nd race, an 8f handicap for £39k, AVON PEARL won comfortably by 2 1/2 lengths.

Rene bought the horse from Pearl Bloodstock (Qatar) for £12k after its 2yo season. At the time it was rated 78. Since then it has improved its rating to 100 and bound to go up further after today’s victory. It has also won a listed race in Norway. No doubt Rene has conditioned it using his scientific methods. He fully deserves all the success he gets, a genuine innovator.

    • I agree, amazing. I remember covering him in Norway – actually the maker of some of my HR/GPS gear, Polar, provided me with the story.

Hope he’s running in the big Dubai races in March, that would be quite a feat.

  2. Apologies, his name is Rune Haugen!
